Dieter Jurgeleit, 71, of Tottenville, a carpenter, builder and outdoorsman, died Oct. 29 in Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Egbertville, where he had resided for eight years.

Born in Bremen, Germany, he came to the U.S. in 1966. He lived in Manhattan, Brooklyn and California before settling in Staten Island in the 1980s.

Mr. Jurgeleit was a self-employed carpenter and builder.

In his leisure hours, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

His wife of 38 years, the former Patricia Mastrangelo, died in 2011.

He is survived by two sons, John and Christopher, and four grandchildren.

Arrangements, including cremation, are being handled by Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a memorial service at Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood, Tuesday at noon.
