Longtime Eltingville resident Diane Louise Wurzler 59, a loving mother and retired administrative clerk, died Thursday in the Clove Lakes Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Castleton Corners, where she had resided for 10 years.
Born and raised Diane Kingett in Pleasant Plains, she moved to Eltingville 27 years ago. A graduate of Tottenville High School, she worked as a administrative clerk for Merrill Lynch for several years, until she retired for medical reasons in 1987. She lived with and bravely fought multiple sclerosis, which which she was diagnosed at the age of 23.
Mrs. Wurzler was a cheerleader while attending Tottenville High School. She was a huge fan of football and hockey. She particularly loved the New York Jets, Oakland Raiders, Green Bay Packers, and the New York Giants. Her favorite hockey team was the New York Islanders. She lived for the Super Bowl, which was like a holiday to her, her family said.
Mrs. Wurzler loved watching her favorite television shows, which included Law and Order: SVU, NCIS, All My Children, Family Feud, and Dancing With the Stars. She enjoyed spending time in the greenhouse in the nursing home, getting her nails painted, collecting dolphin figurines, crafting ceramics, raising money for charities, attending ladies club, and spending time with her friends and the nurses at the home.
She enjoyed all the time she spent with her son, husband, sisters, brother, cousins, uncle, aunt, nephews, niece and grandniece.
Mrs.Wurzler was a gentle and compassionate woman, who was always brave, never complained and never let any thing get her down, family said.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, John; her son, Shawn, her sister, Cathy Kingett, and her brother Bill Kingett.
The memorial service will be Saturday at 11a.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Arrangements included cremation.
