Longtime Annadale resident Dennis Grace Sr., 75, a retired city firefighter who will be remembered as being honorable, lively and caring, died Wednesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Princes' Bay.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. Grace moved to Annadale in 1979, and remained a resident of that community.

Mr. Grace had a 28 year career with the FDNY. First assigned to Engine Co. 252 in Brooklyn, he retired in 1994, from Ladder 87 in Eltingville. Mr. Grace belonged to the Staten Island FDNY Retirees.

A sports enthusiast, he rooted for the N.Y. Yankees and football Giants.

He loved spending time with his family, and doted on his grandchildren.

An accomplished conversationalist, he was optimistic and always had a kind word to say, his family said.

Devout in his faith, he was a parishioner of Holy Child R.C. Church, Eltingville.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Nina Grace, his two sons, Dennis Jr. and William; his sister, Eileen Karcich; his two brothers, Jack and Neil and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 11 a.m. in Holy Child Church, Eltingville. Arrangements include cremation.
