Daniel J. Massa (“Captain Dan” “Pop”) was born September 25, 1936 at home on Staten Island, New York to Joseph and Margaret Massa. He passed away suddenly from complications of pneumonia on July 30, 2020.

Daniel is an alumnus of Curtis High School and was a member of the United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees, from 1954-1962, receiving an honorable discharge. He worked as an elevator mechanic before joining the MTA where he retired from after 20 years of service.

Former Commodore of the Great Kills Yacht Club where he was a member since 1972, Daniel had a great passion for the outdoors and enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing- especially teaching his grandchildren to fish.

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife of 62 years Maureen (Moran) Massa, sister Maria Parello, children Deborah Perroth, Doreen Traut, Dennis Massa, and Maria Metzger, and 8 grandchildren.
