Daniel Ennis, 61, of Tottenville, a retired deckhand, steadfast family man and sports enthusiast, died Saturday at home.
The lifelong Staten Islander was born and raised in Great Kills and settled in Tottenville 35 years ago.
He graduated from McKee High School.
A member of Local 25, International Union of Operating Engineers, Mr. Ennis worked on tugboats and dredgers for 25 years. He then worked for the Staten Island Ferry, also as a deckhand, for 11 years, until retiring in 2008.
He was a loyal Washington Redskins and New York Yankees fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing.
Mr. Ennis also was fond of fishing and spending time on his boat.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and having them with him.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, the former Wendy Ahlin; his son, Brian; his daughter, Elizabeth Roppolo, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Rossville. Arrangements include cremation.
