Chris Rollo, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 3, 2021.
Chris was born on April 12, 1939, to Anthony and Mary (Gambardella) Somma. On April 11, 1959, Chris married the love of her life, her soul mate, Charlie Rollo. Their story reads like a true fairytale; the beautiful girl marries the boy next door. Then they live in the same house that Chris grew up in since she was four years old.
Chris was well known in the community as she worked at Bishop Ford High School for thirty years, where she was fondly called “Mom” by many. Her weekend routine was always the same; it started by going to the beauty parlor, a tradition that began with her father when she was younger. This was followed by a trip to Faicco’s for everyone’s favorites. Regular attendance at Church where she would light a candle for anyone who needed a little extra care. The smell of sauce and meatballs were the norm, followed by dinner at 3:00. Everyone knows if she couldn’t be found cooking, ironing, cleaning windows, or doing everyone’s laundry, she was happily playing the slots in Atlantic City.
Chris is survived by her husband, Charlie of 62 years, her children Margaret, Maria (Robert) Dadona, Michael (Christina), Elizabeth, Frank, and Christina; grandchildren, Ashley, Kristen, Gina (John Peter), Amanda (AJ), Alyssa (Colin), Brandon, Christina, Danielle, Jeffrey, Charlie, Robert, Alexandra, Samantha, Anthony, Christopher, Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Cameron, Peter Anthony, and Amelia Kate; daughter-in-law, Theresa Rollo Bencivenga; brother, Anthony, nephew Gregg (June), niece Dina (Dave), and many cousins. Chris was predeceased by her son, Anthony, and granddaughter, Nicole.
Chris will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. A wake will be held on Monday from 2:00-7:00 at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home in Staten Island.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude, as this was the charity that was close to Chris’ heart.
As Gandhi said, “There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart.”
