Charles S. Strickler, Jr. 87
Charles S. Strickler, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully, after a short illness, in Staten Island University Hospital North, October 5, 2020. Born in Weehawken, to the late Charles S. and Louis Strickler, he was raised in Teaneck, New Jersey.
He graduated Teaneck High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania and went on graduate from NYU with a MBA.
Charles served his country in the Air Force. He was assigned to the 607th AC&W Squadron which was a part of the 502nd Tactical Group stationed in South Korea.
He lived most of his life in New Jersey before moving to West Palm Beach. Three years ago, he reluctantly moved to Staten Island to be closer to family and took up residence in the Brielle at Seaview.
In 1968 he married the love of his life Joan Engel and was gifted with an instant family. As a married couple they enjoyed travels with family and friends. Joan predeceased Charles in October of 2013.
He worked for the Federal Reserve Bank as a Bank Examinator for many years before accepting a position with National Community Bank in New Jersey in 1968. He retired in 1994 as the Branch Manager of the West Englewood Branch.
Charles enjoyed playing golf and backgammon, listening to soft jazz, going on trips to casinos, doing jigsaw puzzles and sudoku puzzles. He was an avid reader and loved to watch baseball, football, or whatever sporting event could be found on TV. He was a Yankee and Giant fan to the end.
Charles is survived by his stepson the Reverend Garry Squire, and stepdaughter Cathi Squire Bassett and her husband Rich; six grandchildren Rhett Bassett, Christopher Bassett, Kimberly Bassett, Rebecca Squire, Megan Squire Abdelaziz, and Kaitlyn Squire; and six great grand Layla, Ava, Amir, Aaliyah, Casen, Stevie and Nicholas.
Friends may visit Tuesday from 3-8 PM.
The Funeral service of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Messiah Lutheran Church Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Memorial Fund of Messiah Lutheran Church, 672 Drumgoole Road East Staten Island, NY 10312 would be appreciated.
