Catherine Pizzo, 83, a retired bookkeeper who enjoyed gardening, boating and traveling, died Friday in her Willowbrook home.
The lifelong Staten Islander was born Catherine Miranda in New Brighton and settled in Willowbrook in 1968.
A graduate of Curtis High School, she was a bookkeeper for the World Telegram and Sun newspaper in Manhattan until it went out of business in 1966. She then worked as a bookkeeper at Silver Lake Nursing Home, Brighton Heights, until retiring in 1990.
She and her husband, George Pizzo, traveled extensively in their motor home, visiting most of the continental United States. They later owned a summer home in Toms River, N.J., where they enjoyed boating, crabbing and entertaining.
Mrs. Pizzo was an expert gardener known for the beautiful roses she grew.
She was a parishioner of Holy Family R.C. Church, Willowbrook.
George, her husband of 50 years, died in 2001.
Surviving are her daughters, Donna Bailey and Deborah Rodowsky; her sister, Frances Pizzo; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10:45 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.

A 10:45 AM Mass of Christian Burial Monday July 21, 2014 at Holy Family, R.C. Church. Followed by Burial at St. Peters Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Sunday July 20,2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
