Caterina Schiano
Caterina Schiano (nee Mallano), a humble and devout woman, peacefully departed from this earthly realm on November 19, 2023, at the age of 82 in Staten Island, New York. She was born on July 13, 1941, in the serene town of Pomarico, Matera, Italy, where she learned the values of gratitude, humility, and respect for all of creation. Caterina is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Vincenzo and Beatrice, whose guidance and love shaped her into the remarkable person she became.
Caterina's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her commitment to selflessly serving her family. A kind and gentle soul, she exemplified the virtues of compassion and love in all her interactions. Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
Caterina is survived by her beloved husband, Domenico Schiano, who stood by her side throughout their journey of love and devotion. She is also survived by her treasured children, Michael ,and Josephine, who were the joy of her life. Her daughter-in-law, Diane, and son-in-law, Stephen, were embraced by Caterina as her own, and she cherished the special bond they shared. Caterina's legacy lives on through her treasured grandchildren, Michael, Kaitlin, Olivia, Jennifer, and Matt, who were the light of her life. She reveled in their accomplishments and bestowed upon them her unwavering love. Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchild, Alessia Mary, who brought immeasurable happiness to her heart.
In the tapestry of Caterina's life, family played an integral role. She shared a deep bond with her siblings, Maria, Michelle, and James, and found solace in their unwavering support. Caterina's love extended to her nieces and nephews, Mimi, Jennifer, Maria Assunta, Dominick, Vincent, Anthony, Salvatore, Mario, Armandino, Salvatore, and Marco, who held a special place in her heart.
A time of remembrance and reflection will be held at the Bedell Pizzo Funeral Home, located at 7447 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10307, on Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. In reverence to Caterina's devout faith, a Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea, located at 5371 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10312. Following the sacred rites, Caterina's will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery, a place of eternal peace and tranquility, located at 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10309.
In recognition of Caterina's unwavering spirit of generosity and compassion, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. This noble act will carry forward Caterina's legacy of selflessness and bring hope to the lives of those in need.
As we gather to celebrate Caterina's life, let us remember her unwavering faith, her humble spirit, and her profound love for her family. May her gentle soul find eternal peace in the embrace of the divine, and may her memory forever be a blessing to all whose lives she touched.
