Camille Quaglia (Portobello) was born on July 1, 1944 to Vincent Portobello and Carmella Smaldone, in the Park Slope Section of Brooklyn. She moved to Dyker Heights with her family as a young woman where she met her spouse, Peter Quaglia. The couple married on September 26, 1965 and have lived on Staten Island ever since.
Camille was a devout Catholic and long time catechist. She began her career as a Catholic Religious Educator in 1975 at St. Sylvester’s Church in Concord. She would go on to serve for 24 years ultimately as Program Coordinator, retiring only after moving to the South Shore of the Island. Once “retired” from St. Sylvester’s but still willing to work, and her reputation for excellence having been widely known in the Catholic Community, she was asked to fill the role of Religious Education Coordinator at Our Lady Star of the Sea which she did until 2020. In all she served the Catholic Community on Staten Island for over 45 years.
In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, arts and crafts, shopping, cooking, baking, spending time at the beach with her four grandchildren, and spoiling her beloved dog, Chester. However, Camille’s absolute favorite activity was cooking dinners for loved ones, particularly during the holidays which she celebrated to the fullest. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family gathered around the dinner table. She was a loyal wife, a devoted mother, and a quintessential grandmother; the heart of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her younger sister Jeannette Pompo (Portobello). She is survived by her husband, Peter Quaglia Jr., her 2 children, Peter Quaglia and Joyce Fiedler, her four grandchildren, Lisa Quaglia, Samantha Quaglia, Emily Fiedler, and Daniel Fiedler, her baby sister, Evelyn Grillo, and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews by whom she was adored.
