Bruno J. Trocciola, 95, of Annadale, a retired broker and a veteran of World War II, died Tuesday in the Clove Lakes Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Castleton Corners.
Born in Brooklyn, he graduated from New Utrecht High School and moved to Annadale in 1970.
He worked as a U.S. customs house broker at J.W. Hampton Jr. & Co., Manhattan, for 38 years. He retired in the 1980s.
Mr. Trocciola was a private in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1941 to 1945. He was stationed in Rhineland, Germany, and was captured by the German army. He was held as a prisoner of war until 1945 and received two Bronze Stars for his service.
Mr. Trocciola had a green thumb and loved growing tomatoes, zucchini, beans and eggplant in his garden. After harvesting his crops, he would offer his vegetables to his neighbors and family members and serve them in specialty dishes. When he wasn't gardening, Mr. Trocciola enjoyed tinkering around the house and smoking cigars.
He also loved traveling across the country with his wife and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, the former Olympia Masino; three sons, Dennis, Richard and Robert, and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains. Arrangements are being handled by the Bedell Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville.
