STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Brian Malloy, 52, of Tottenville, a retired firefighter and dedicated family man who avidly cheered on the Yankees and Giants, died Monday at home of lung cancer.
Born in Manhattan, he moved to Brooklyn with his family before settling in Pleasant Plains. He settled in Tottenville in 1987.
Mr. Malloy graduated from Tottenville High School in 1976 and later began his 22-year FDNY career at Ladder 9, Engine 33 in Manhattan.
Mr. Malloy was later part of Ladder 80, Engine 157 in Port Richmond before retiring in 2007.
Described as a jack-of-all-trades, he also operated All Hands Construction Corp.
Mr. Malloy was a member of the Stolzenthaler Knights of Columbus, Charleston, and the FDNY Emerald Society.
He also coached his son's South Shore Little League baseball teams.
His family said he worked at the World Trade Center site for a month following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
"He was a well-loved man," said his wife of 24 years, the former Bonnie Charney.
She said he was selfless and always willing to help others.
Mr. Malloy was a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville.
In addition to his wife, Bonnie, surviving are two sons, Christopher and Matthew; a brother, James, and four sisters, Maureen Mazzaglia, Mary Ellen Malloy, Eileen Carbone and Deirdre Gorman.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
