Arcangelo Longo, 74, a retired lithographer and longtime Prince's Bay resident who most loved being with his family, died Tuesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.
Born and raised in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily, Italy, he immigrated to the United States in 1955, moving to Manhattan. He also lived in Brooklyn before settling in Prince's Bay in 1968.
Mr. Longo worked as a lithographer for 35 years, until retiring in 1997.
He was a member of the Castellammare del Golfo Social Club, Brooklyn.
Mr. Longo loved his garden, where he put his green thumb to good use, growing wonderful tomatoes, and enjoyed making homemade sauce.
He was a traditional Italian family man from the old school, hardworking, loving and committed to his family and doting on his grandchildren. He delighted in family gatherings, especially during the holidays. He also enjoyed playing cards and socializing with his friends.
Mr. Longo was a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Giovanna; his son, Serafino; his daughters, Maria Raffelo, Anna Rapaglia, Lisa Wagner and Giovanna Celentano; his brothers, Benny and Vincent; his sister, Josephine Bonanno, and 12 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville , with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
