Ann Marie Leal, 67, of Prince's Bay, a retired city HPD auditor who was deeply involved in the lives of her family and is remembered as loving and giving, died Sunday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.
Born Ann Marie Gentile in Manhattan, she grew up in Brooklyn and lived there until 2012, when she moved to Prince's Bay to live with her daughter, Deanna Leal, and her family.
She graduated from Lafayette High School and earned an associate's degree in accounting from Kingsborough Community College, both in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Leal worked as an auditor for 30 years for the city Department of Housing Preservation and Development. She retired in 2012.
She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, making crafts and visits to Atlantic City. She also liked to make candies and lollipops for family parties She also was fond of socializing with her friends.
She loved being with her family and socializing with her friends.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and a beautiful person inside and out, her daughter, Deanna, said.
Surviving Mrs. Leal, along with her daughter, are her sons, Ronald and Gene; her brothers, James and Al Gentile and Robert Norby; her sister, JoAnn Cannarelli, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, Pleasant Plains. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, also Pleasant Plains.
