STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Native Staten Islander Anne Pistek, 89, a homemaker, died Thursday in the Carmel-Richmond Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills, where she had been a resident since 2007.
Born Anne Weening and raised in Tottenville, she graduated from Tottenville High School in 1942. While there, she was in the Latin Club. She attended Wagner College, Grymes Hill.
She he married her husband of 57 years, John F., during World War II at the former Manor Road Armory before he went off to serve in the Navy during World War II.
Mrs. Pistek was fluent in Latin, Spanish and German.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Tottenville.
Mrs. Pistek read at least two books a week. She enjoyed solving difficult crossword puzzles, anagrams and cryptic puzzles and trivia games.
According to family, Mrs. Pistek was very knowledgeable and knew lots of information about various topics. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, sky diving and target shooting. Mrs. Pistek enjoyed dotting on her grandchildren.
She had a very funny sense of humor and would do anything for anyone and never had a bad word to say about anyone. She also adored her grandchildren, said her son, Erik Pistek.
Her husband, John, died in 2000.
Along with her son, Erik, also surviving are two more sons, Thomas and Jan; one daughter, Marylou Whitfield; one brother, Samuel Weening; 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Arrangements include cremation.
