Ann Morvillo, 89, of Tottenville, a retired New York telephone operator, who was devoted to her family, died Monday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Born Ann Ficarra in the Bronx, she moved to the North Shore of Staten Island in 1964, before moving to Brick, N.J., in 1982. She returned to Staten Island, residing in Tottenville, in 1996.
Mrs. Morvillo graduated from Washington Irving High School in Manhattan in 1941.
She worked as a designer in the fashion district in Manhattan for 10 years, before leaving to raise her children. She returned to the work force in 1971, taking a job as a directory assistance operator with New York Telephone Company on Staten Island. She retired in 1982.
Mrs. Morvillo enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, painting and line dancing. She also enjoyed traveling to Europe.
"She was sweet and simple, and she loved spending time with her grandsons," said her family.
Mrs. Morvillo was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Staten Island Friendship Club operating out of Mount Loretto in Pleasant Plains.
She was a parishioner of St. Joseph-St. Thomas R.C. Church, Pleasant Plains. Her husband of 48 years, Victor, died in 1993.
Surviving are her two sons, Guido and Victor; her daughter, Joanne Cancro; a sister, Rosemarie Battaglini; nine grandsons and one great-grandson.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph-St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
