Anna Margaret Socci, 85, a retired waitress who will be remembered for her directness, sense of humor and big heart, died Monday in Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills.
The lifelong Staten Islander was born and raised in West Brighton and lived there until the early 1990s, when she went to live with her daughter, Beth Martino, in Tottenville. She entered Carmel Richmond in 2012.
Ms. Socci was a licensed practical nurse for several years before opening her own business, Anne's Coffee Cup in New Dorp. She later worked for many years as a waitress at the former Victory Diner in Dongan Hills.
She most loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking trips to Toms River, N.J., to visit her niece and nephew. She also enjoyed playing lotto, bingo and cards, crocheting and visits to Atlantic City with her brothers.
Ms. Socci attended Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville and was a former parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, West Brighton
Surviving, along with her daughter, Beth, are her son, Mark Anderson; three brothers, Larry, Arthur and Joseph Socci and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
