Ann Ahmed, 72
Career educator, recognized as one of America's best teachers
Ann Ahmed (nee DiCarlo), 72, passed away on Nov. 9, 2017, at Staten Island University Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, she moved to Staten Island 30 years ago. She graduated from Packer Institute H.S., then got her B.A. degree from Wagner College and her master's in education from Richmond College.
She was a New York City teacher for 30 years. Ann taught English and reading. She retired in 2000. In 1997, she was nationally recognized and awarded as one of America's best teachers.
Ann enjoyed crocheting, crosswords, and was an avid reader. She attended St. Joseph/St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church.
Ann is survived by her son, Stephen Ahmed and daughter-in-law, Melinda Evans Ahmed; her brother, Stephen DiCarlo; her sister, Linda Geniton; three nephews; four nieces; 15 great-nieces and nephews, and her granddaughter, Arianna.
Funeral from Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home is Monday at 9:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:30 a.m. at St Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church. Cremation will be private. Friends may visit on Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
