Former Tottenville resident Alice G. Doody, 80, died Tuesday in Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Shrewsbury, N.J.

Born Alice Carraher in Brooklyn, she graduated from Fontbonne Hall Academy. She moved to Staten Island in 1964 and lived in Tottenville until relocating to Shrewsbury five years ago.

She was first employed as a secretary at the Federal Reserve Bank in Manhattan for about six years. She rejoined the labor force in the mid-1970s, working in Manhattan first at Swiss Bank for two years and then as an account representative for European American Bank for 20 years. She retired in 1997.

She was hardworking, and very devoted to the family, said her daughter, Catherine Bocchicchio. She took care of my father before he died, and after that her whole focus was her grandchildren.

Mrs. Doody was a member of the South Shore Swim Club for 25 years, and served on its board of directors. She enjoyed spending time with friends at the club, and traveling with them on cruises to the Caribbean. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville.

Her husband of 48 years, Lester, died in 2005.

In addition to her daughter, Catherine, surviving are her son, William; a daughter, Peggy Davi; a sister, Rose Fitton; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Arrangements include cremation.
