STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Alfred E. Seiler, 91, of Huguenot, a retired subway trackman and a devout Catholic, died Sunday at home.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, he moved to New Dorp in 1970 and settled in Huguenot in 1973.
Mr. Seiler served as a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attained the rank of sergeant.
He worked for 22 years for the New York City Transit Authority, now known as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, doing repairs and maintenance on the network of city subway tracks.
He had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Seiler was a very active parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, where he served as an usher. He also was member of Stolzenthaler Council, Knights of Columbus.
His wife of 59 years, the former Marie Campone, died in 2008.
The funeral will be tomorrow from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
