Alexander Minko

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Alexander Minko, 94, of Rossville, a retired social worker, died Friday in the Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Egbertville.

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Minko settled in Rossville 18 years ago.

Mr. Minko worked for 22 years as a social worker in Queens for the New York City Department of Social Services.

Mr. Minko served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer escort, the USS Francis M. Robinson, during World War II, from 1942 to 1946.

He received a presidential unit citation for his military service.

Mr. Minko graduated from Bryant High School in Queens and earned a bachelor's degree from Rider College, Trenton.

Mr. Minko was a member of a Brooklyn VFW chapter.

He enjoyed swimming, golfing, dancing, and going to Off-Track-Betting.

He was a big fan of the television game show, Wheel of Fortune.

He will be sorely missed, said his wife of 58 years, the former Josephine Regula.

Along with his wife, Josephine, also surviving are one son, Glenn; one daughter, Alison Ullrich, and one sister, Helen Dimisko.

The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.

Services: 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial , on Monday March 4,2013 at Our Lady Star Of The Sea, R.C. Church. Followed by Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation: Friends will be received on Saturday March 2,2013 from 7-9 PM and Sunday March 3,2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM
