STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Anna Hall-Mac Mahon, 69, of Tottenville, a retired veterinarian technician and founder of a Staten Island dog owners organization, died Thursday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.

Born Anna Bonafede in Queens, she relocated to New Brunswick, N.J., in the early 1960s and to Staten Island in the late 1960s. She moved to Tottenville in 1987.

She was a registered veterinarian technician with the Paulus Animal Hospital in New Brunswick for 10 years. She retired in 1992.

She graduated from New Brunswick High School.

Her family described her as a passionate animal lover who founded the Dog Owners Group of Staten Island (DOGSI) and advocated, with former city Parks Commissioner Tom Paulo, for the establishment of a dog run at Wolfe's Pond Park, Huguenot. In addition, she shipped items overseas for U.S. combat troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, receiving recognition from the Army for her work, and she was an avid gardener.

Surviving are her husband of 27 years, Robert Mac Mahon, a daughter, Liana Hall Champlin and a granddaughter.

The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, both Tottenville. Arrangements include cremation.
