MaryAnne Cashman, 71, of Richmond Valley, an interior designer and an avid golfer and tennis player, died Saturday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.

Born MaryAnne Vappia in Park Slope, Brooklyn, she graduated from St. Joseph High School in her native borough. She moved to Richmond Valley in 1971.

Mrs. Cashman was a self-employed interior designer.

She loved golf and was an active member of the Silvettes, the oldest women's golf organization in the United States. She had played golf as recently as July 14 at South Shore Golf Course, family said. She also loved to play tennis.

Mrs. Cashman cherished time spent with her grandchildren and enjoyed baby-sitting and helping care for them.

She and her husband, Edward Cashman, had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Also surviving are her daughters, Victoria Castagnetti and Lynn Stattel, and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, both in Tottenville. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway, N.J.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation New York Chapter, in MaryAnn's name would be appreciated. http://fightcf.cff.org/site/TR/GreatStrides/55_Greater_New_York_Manhattan?px=1132291&pg=personal&fr_id=2251

We were very saddened and shocked to hear of Mary Ann's passing. We met on a cruise back in the 1980's. Me (Pat) and Mary Ann became instant friends. Birthdays the same month, interests in decorating etc. She will be missed. God rest her soul.
