Frances Alfonso, 88, of Prince’s Bay, a devoted homemaker who enjoyed ¨being with her family, especially her grandsons and great-grandson, died Tuesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.

Born Frances Cusumano in St. Louis, Mo., she moved to Brooklyn with family when she was a child and lived there until 20 years ago, when she settled in Prince’s Bay.

She attended high school in Brooklyn and worked in a defense plant during World War II. She also had worked as a pipefitter at Pioneer Pipe Co. in Queens.

Mrs. Alfonso loved classic movies and film stars, and enjoyed talking about them. She liked to organize family photographs into albums, and enjoyed trips to Atlantic City. She was especially fond of sitting outdoors in the sunshine with her friends. She had been energetic and healthy, and enjoyed shopping, cooking and other activities.

But she most loved spending time with her great-grandson and playing Candy Land with him, family said.

Surviving Mrs. Alfonso are her husband of 63 years, Gaspare; her son, Barry; her daughters, Maria Polak and Frances Bucolo; a sister, Marie Igneri; three grandsons and a great-grandson.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
