STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Rose Forestier, 88, of Tottenville, a retired seamstress, died Monday in Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton.

Born in Manhattan, she lived in Brooklyn for most of her life before relocating to Grant City in 1992. She moved to Tottenville several years later to live with her nephew, Alfred Forestier.

Mrs. Forestier worked as a seamstress for more than 40 years for apparel factories in Secaucus, N.J., retiring in 1979. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Worker Union. She later cared for aged members of her family, including her parents and brother. Her nephew, Alfred, recalled, “She was like a second mother to me.”

In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville. Burial will be in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn.
