STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Douglas LaLima, 37, of Tottenville, who is remembered as a loving family man and a great friend of many, died Wednesday in Brooklyn, in an electrical accident.

Born and raised in Marine Park, Brooklyn, he graduated from James Madison High School. He moved to Rossville in 1997, and settled in Tottenville in 2001.

Mr. LaLima had worked as a lineman for Verizon for more than 15 years, and was a member of Local 1109, Communications Workers of America.

“He devoted everything to his family,” said his sister-in-law, Maria Adinolfi.

Mr. LaLima was a caring husband to his wife, the former Vienna Adinolfi, and a devoted father to his four daughters, Ms. Adinolfi said.

He had many friends and was loyal and caring, the kind of person who would give someone the shirt off his back, she said.

“He always had a smile on his face, never a bad word for anybody,” she said. “He was the person you wanted to go away on vacation with.”

In his leisure time, Mr. LaLima liked to work out at the gym.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot.

Surviving, along with Vienna, his wife of 14 years, are his daughters, Victoria, Olivia, Sophia and Julia LaLima; his parents, Veronica and Joseph LaLima; his brother, Todd, and his sister, Veronica LaLima.

The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Lalima children's education fund.

Don't stand by my grave and weep,
For I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint of snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning, hush.
For I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circle flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.
In our hearts and prayers.
Love Cousin Paul, Joann, Paul Jr. & Christopher Damante

To The LaLima Family,
My deepest sympathy goes out to all of the family members. This is a great loss to your family. know that God is there for you. All you have to do is call on him. He said that he will never leave you nor forsake you. When all of your friends and loveones are gone, you will never be alone. Keep Doug in your heart. As for the children tell them God sas a beautiful flower that he wanted, he plucked it, said that you have run the race, you have fought a good fight, now I want you to be with me.
