STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Richard J. Files Sr., 61, a former resident of Annadale and U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in the Vietnam War, died yesterday in the New Vanderbilt Rehabilitation and Care Center, Clifton, where he had been a resident for the past six months.

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Files was brought to Pleasant Plains as a child and graduated from Tottenville High School. He lived with his family in Huguenot and Eltingville before settling in Annadale seven years ago.

Mr. Files served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

He worked for 13 years as a bus operator for the former Willowbrook State School before working for about seven years as a bus operator for various agencies on Staten Island for people with cerebral palsy. Mr. Files then owned and operated the former RJF Limousines, Annadale, before retiring in 2007.

He enjoyed taking trips to Brant Lake, N.Y., with his family. Mr. Files was an avid fan of the New York Jets and liked fishing and watching movies. He enjoyed spending time with his son and his nieces and nephews. Mr. Files also enjoyed taking care of his two dogs.

Surviving are his wife of 23 years, the former Susan Didyk; a son, Richard Jr.; a brother, Edward, and three sisters, Annie Femenella, Lynn Fredrickson and Lauren French.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, with a mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, both in Tottenville. Cremation is being handled by Rosehill Crematory, Linden, N.J.
